Gum tissue is more than an aesthetic frame. Its thickness, position and cleanability influence symptoms, root exposure and the long-term maintenance of implant and tooth restorations.
Soft-tissue treatment is therefore not planned in isolation. We first clarify the cause, tissue type, tooth or implant position and the desired functional or aesthetic goal.
What does soft-tissue management mean?
Soft tissue refers primarily to the gums around natural teeth and implants. The shape, thickness and stability of this tissue influence cleanability, protection of the underlying structures and the aesthetic appearance – particularly in the visible anterior region.
Soft-tissue management in Basel can range from tissue-preserving incision design to periodontal plastic surgery or tissue augmentation. Not every tissue defect requires surgery. The key question is whether treatment offers a meaningful biological, functional or aesthetic benefit.

What treatment options are available?
Depending on the findings, options may include observation, treatment of the cause, periodontal plastic surgery or soft-tissue augmentation. Not every recession can be completely covered; the anatomical starting situation determines the prognosis.
Plan soft tissue and dental restorations together
For veneers, crowns and implants, the soft tissues should already be considered during the planning phase. This allows contours, cleanability and transitions to be designed more harmoniously.
