Aesthetics are individual. Often the aim is not the whitest possible or perfectly symmetrical teeth, but proportions that suit the face, lips and personality.
We therefore begin by asking what you actually want to change. Small corrections can often be achieved much more conservatively than a comprehensive restoration.
What does aesthetic dentistry mean?
For us, aesthetic dentistry does not mean making teeth as white or as uniform as possible. The aim is natural harmony between tooth shape, tooth colour, tooth position, gums and face. We first clarify which changes are genuinely desired and medically appropriate.
Depending on the starting situation, teeth whitening, composite, aligners, veneers, gum corrections or reconstructive procedures may be considered. In our Basel practice, aesthetic planning is combined with function and tooth preservation. Whenever possible, we choose the approach that preserves healthy tooth structure most effectively.
Possible treatments
Professional teeth whitening when the starting situation is suitable.
Direct composite corrections for shape, edges or small gaps.
Veneers when clearly indicated and sufficient enamel is available.
Digital Smile Design and a mock-up to visualise the result before definitive treatment.
Gum corrections or interdisciplinary treatment when proportions are influenced by the soft tissues or tooth position.
Minimally invasive whenever possible
Not every aesthetic change requires ceramic restorations. Aligners, teeth whitening or additive composite corrections may be a more appropriate preliminary step or alternative.
Aesthetics and function belong together
For larger changes, the bite, tooth guidance and material loading are included in the planning. This is particularly important in cases of tooth wear, bruxism or extensive existing dental restorations.
