Implant aftercare & maintenance

Regular monitoring of tissues, function and long-term cleanability

An implant is not “finished” once the prosthetic restoration has been completed. Tissues, hygiene, the bite and technical components change over the years and should be checked regularly.

Follow-up is adapted to your personal risk. People with a history of periodontitis, smoking, limited cleanability or previous inflammation often require closer monitoring.

What does implant aftercare mean?

An implant is not maintenance-free after healing. Long-term stability also depends on healthy tissues, good cleanability, regular checks and a recall schedule suited to the individual risk profile. Implant aftercare is therefore part of treatment, not merely a response to symptoms.

During implant maintenance in Basel, we assess the gums, probing findings, cleanability, technical components and – when indicated – bone levels over time. Changes detected early can often be assessed more specifically than problems first noticed when pain or loosening occurs.

What is included in implant aftercare?

  • Assessment of the gums and peri-implant tissues.

  • Assessment of bleeding, cleanability and – where appropriate – probing values.

  • Professional biofilm removal with implant-compatible instruments.

  • Assessment of the crown, screw connection, contact points and bite.

  • Radiographic checks based on individual indication and clinical course.

Recall according to risk rather than a fixed schedule

There is no single interval that suits everyone. We determine follow-up according to inflammatory risk, hygiene, previous disease and the design of the restoration.

Also for implants placed elsewhere

Structured implant maintenance is also possible when the implants were originally placed in another practice. If abnormalities are identified, further assessment can be arranged at an early stage.

Further information

Think long term. Good implant treatment includes not only surgery and the crown, but also reliable follow-up afterwards.
