Digital dentistry & 3D planning
Use technology where it improves diagnostics, communication or precision
For us, digital dentistry is not a treatment goal in itself. A scanner, CBCT or visualisation is useful when it improves diagnostics, communication or the delivery of treatment.
We combine digital data with clinical examination and dental-laboratory planning. This allows many individual pieces of information to be brought together into a shared model of the treatment.
What does digital dentistry mean?
Digital dentistry uses technologies such as intraoral scanning, 3D imaging, virtual implant planning and Digital Smile Design to document findings more precisely and connect treatment steps more effectively. Technology should support clinical assessment – not replace it.
In our Basel practice, we use digital procedures where they provide a concrete benefit for planning, communication or treatment delivery. For example, implant positions, dental restorations or aesthetic changes can be assessed spatially before treatment and discussed with the patient.
Digital components
Intraoral scanning for digital models and monitoring over time.
CBCT for three-dimensional questions when clearly indicated.
Digital Smile Design for analysing and visualising aesthetic-functional goals.
Virtual implant planning and surgical guides in suitable cases.
Digital communication with the dental laboratory and interdisciplinary partners.
Technology does not replace diagnosis
Even precise digital data must be interpreted clinically. Treatment decisions arise from the findings, biology, function and your goals – not from software.
Benefit for communication
Scans and visualisations can make complex relationships easier to understand. This is particularly helpful in larger reconstructions where several treatment steps need to be coordinated.
Further information
Digital where it makes sense. Technology should support a good clinical decision – not replace it.
