Healthy gums and stable bone provide the foundation for natural teeth, implants and dental restorations. Periodontitis can progress unnoticed for a long time and should be treated in a structured way.
Treatment generally begins non-surgically. Only after professional biofilm control and reevaluation do we decide whether additional measures are necessary.
What does periodontology mean?
Periodontology deals with the tooth-supporting tissues – the gums, periodontal ligament and bone that support the teeth. If untreated, chronic inflammation in periodontitis leads to progressive loss of these structures and can impair the long-term prognosis of the teeth.
Periodontitis treatment in Basel is therefore carried out step by step: reduce inflammation, control risk factors, treat hard-to-reach areas selectively and then establish an individual maintenance programme. Tooth preservation does not mean keeping every tooth at any cost, but assessing prognosis realistically.

Periodontology before reconstruction
Before implants, crowns or more extensive dental restorations, inflammatory conditions should be as stable as possible. Periodontology is therefore an integral part of many reconstructive treatment plans.
Tooth preservation as a goal
Even severely compromised teeth may be preserved depending on their prognosis. At the same time, it is important to identify hopeless teeth in good time so that the overall treatment plan is not unnecessarily compromised.
