Plan implants from the prosthetic perspective, respect the tissues and plan in three dimensions
Implant dentistry is particularly demanding when bone is lacking, soft-tissue conditions are unfavourable, multiple implants are required, or the future prosthetic restoration places high aesthetic and functional demands.
In such cases, we plan backwards from the future tooth: Where should the crown be positioned? How should it be cleaned? Which implant position supports this goal? The surgical steps are then derived from this plan.
What does complex implant dentistry mean?
We speak of complex implant dentistry when the task involves more than simply placing an implant and bone availability, soft tissue, implant position, aesthetics and the future prosthetic restoration all need to be planned together. Especially in demanding situations, planning has a major influence on whether the final restoration functions well and can be cleaned effectively.
In our Basel practice, the implant position is therefore planned backwards from the future tooth shape and function. Bone augmentation, soft-tissue management or 3D planning are added only when they make sense within a robust overall concept.

Not every bone deficiency requires the same augmentation
Small defects, pronounced horizontal deficiencies and complex vertical situations require different techniques. In some cases, a larger augmentation can be avoided through the implant position or the restorative concept.
Plan prosthodontics and surgery together
A technically osseointegrated implant is only a good restoration if the future crown can be designed appropriately in terms of function, aesthetics and hygiene. Surgical and prosthetic planning are therefore combined.
